UK Holidays Help Families Beat Fuel Price Rises

Holiday park operator Haven has revealed a huge increase in the number of people booking UK holidays this year due to a combination of the strong Euro and surging oil prices that have made European breaks much more expensive.

Hemel Hempstead, UK (PRWEB) May 22, 2008 -- With the price of oil breaking records on both the international markets and the petrol station forecourts, UK consumers are finding that they are increasingly pressed when it comes to the amount of spare cash they have available in order to pay for their holidays, and record numbers are choosing to stay at home this year rather than facing the increasing cost of traveling overseas.

According to the latest figures from the department of transport, the number of people choosing to stay in the UK this summer has increased by more than 25% as a result of the increased costs of travel, and the ongoing effects of the credit crunch on consumer confidence.

In addition to the increasing cost of having a holiday overseas due to the strength of the Euro, the recent heat wave that has seen parts of the country recording temperatures that are hotter than in Spain means that a short break is even more attractive to consumers.

UK holiday park operator Haven Holidays has announced a whole range of special offers to help families to get the most out of their summer breaks without having to break the bank, and their parks across the UK are all located close to the beach, and offer plenty of indoor activities in case the weather is poor.

Haven Holidays research has shown that most families travel less than 2 hours from home to one of their caravan parks, which means that they can be enjoying the facilities on the park sooner than they can board the aircraft with the 2 hour check in time at most UK airports, which is one of the main reasons that puts people off traveling overseas.

Families looking for last minute May holidays to coincide with the school half term break next week will find that there are plenty of special offers available and impressive savings to be had. A family of 4 can rent a caravan for the bank holiday weekend at Doniford Bay in Somerset for just £199 for 3 nights.
Haven Holidays operate 35 UK Holiday parks in coastal location around the country that offer a range of family holidays and all feature swimming pools, children's clubs, and evening entertainment. For more information, call 0871 230 1930 or visit www.havenholidays.com.
