Kenya Data Networks Expands its Wi-Fi Services Adding Six New Countries Using Strix Systems Access/One Wireless Mesh Network Equipment

Strix Access/One gives Kenya Data Networks and its customers superior robust performance and reach for strategic and large-scale deployments throughout sub-Sahara Africa.
Strix Access/One is the industry's top-performing WiFi mesh solution. It doesn't matter where the networks are deployed, whether in the U.S. or Africa, service providers can depend on our products

Calabasas, Calif. (PRWEB) May 7, 2008 -- Strix Systems, a worldwide leader in high-performance wireless mesh networking today announced that Kenya Data Networks (KDN) has expanded its network services to six major countries in sub-Sahara Africa. Strix's Access/One® Network Outdoor Wireless Systems (OWS), Indoor Wireless Systems (IWS) and Edge Wireless System (EWS) provide KDN greater performance, reach and mobility enabling the service provider to deliver cost effective services to Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon and Malawi.

KDN successfully deployed Strix's mesh networking solution in 2006 for the introduction of its "Butterfly" wireless/WiFi service. KDN is expanding its subscriber base which started in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Eldoret to provide high-quality broadband services to customers in the cities and rural areas. The successful deployment of these cities utilizing Strix's Access/One products has made it possible for KDN to move to the next major set of deployments across sub-Sahara Africa.

International bandwidth comes at a high cost, especially in Africa. It's for this reason that a strategy reaching beyond a single city service would be critical. It is also critical that the wireless/WiFi component of the service be a modular multi-radio architecture to optimally integrate with the providers set of technologies including free space optical, fiber, copper, and microwave.

"Butterfly has made it possible for customers to gain access to our high-quality services which currently include business data, mobile broadband, voice over IP and residential internet," said Dr. Kai U. Wulff, Managing Director of KDN. "Strix Systems products and services have enabled KDN to develop Butterfly as a strong high-value brand. We are very happy with the performance and reliability of Strix Systems equipment and services."

Prior to their first deployment, KDN selected and tested a number of products. Multiple high-demand real-time applications including business-class internet service, voice over IP (VoIP) and video applications were evaluated. Only Strix could simultaneously support the applications meeting KDN's level of service quality. Strix Systems OWS and IWS proved superior and enabled the service provider to deliver its first major deployment. Now complete, the provider has delivered broad reaching services in multiple countries with seamless connectivity to customers through a wide range of choices for stationary and mobile access, meeting customers' needs for affordable, low cost of entry services.

"Strix Access/One is the industry's top-performing WiFi mesh solution. It doesn't matter where the networks are deployed, whether in the U.S. or Africa, service providers can depend on our products," said Matt Holdrege, Director of International Strategic Sales. "As KDN continues to expand their reach, Strix remains at their side with robust products and services to meet the scope of their projects."
