Ullberg's "Chub Cay Blue" Set for Installation, Dedication; 18-foot-tall, 3,000-pound Blue Marlin will be Installed at its Bahamian Home July 31, Dedicated August 4
Sculptor Kent Ullberg, widely recognized as one of the leading wildlife sculptors in the world, is set to install and dedicate his latest work, Chub Cay Blue. Installation is scheduled for July 31, 2006, and the sculpture will be dedicated, complete with a formal unveiling ceremony and attendance by Bahamian VIPs, on August 4.
Chub Cay, Bahamas (PRWEB) July 28, 2006 -- Sculptor Kent Ullberg, widely recognized as one of the leading wildlife sculptors in the world, is set to install and dedicate his latest work, Chub Cay Blue. Installation is scheduled for July 31, 2006, and the sculpture will be dedicated, complete with a formal unveiling ceremony and attendance by Bahamian VIPs, on August 4.
Ullberg's 18-foot-tall, 3,000-pound leaping marlin will be installed on a 15-foot pedestal at the new Chub Cay Harbor in the Bahamas, where it will be a landmark visible to ships at sea. Chub Cay is the southernmost of the Berry Islands in the Bahamas, 125 miles east of the Florida coast.
The piece was cast at Madd Castings in Berthoud, Colorado, and assembled by Ullberg and his crew at his Loveland, Colorado, studio. The piece took eight months to complete. Ullberg took measurements for the sculpture from a world-record 1,276-pound Pacific Blue Marlin caught off the Kona Coast of the Big Island in Hawaii.
Once completed, the sculpture was laid horizontally and packed for shipping to Port Everglades Harbor in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It was then loaded onto a World War II-type landing craft like that once used in Normandy for the Allied D-Day invasion. The landing craft was used since other vessels that can accommodate the sculpture can't navigate the shallow water surrounding some of the Bahamian islands. The sculpture was taken over water to its final destination.

A native of Sweden, Kent Ullberg is recognized as one of the world’s foremost wildlife sculptors. He is a major supporter of many wildlife conservation efforts.
